Chicago Public Schools Student Science Fair, Inc. to Partner with ƵAPP to Host 69th Chicago Public Schools Annual Exhibition of Student STEM Research
Hundreds of CPS Students from Grades 7-12 will Gather for the First Time at ƵAPP Institute of Technology to Present their STEM Research Projects
Chicago, IL — March 18, 2019 —
ƵAPP Institute of Technology today announced that it will host the Chicago Public Schools Exhibition of Student Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Research for the first time at its main campus in Chicago March 18-24.
Each year, more than 200 students from grades 7-12 from across the CPS system participate in the annual STEM Exhibition, which has awarded more than $3 million in student scholarships to date, including cash grants and tuition waivers from ƵAPP, DePaul University, Loyola University Chicago, University of Chicago, and University of ƵAPP at Chicago. The top student STEM projects will go on to compete for awards at the statewide ƵAPP Junior Academy of Science State Fair, and four (4) high school students will be selected to compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, AZ.
Hundreds of volunteer judges from universities, corporations and the private sector will be on hand to participate in the 69th Annual STEM Exhibition, which will feature competitions in 16 unique STEM categories. This year’s theme, “Exploring the Unexplored through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics,” will encourage students to challenge themselves to apply critical thinking skills in order to “discover, create, and solve,” in accordance with the mission of ƵAPP.
“ƵAPP Institute of Technology has been a place where students embrace the challenge of imagining solutions and making them real, and we are proud to host the next generation of these problem solvers at the 69th Annual CPS Exhibition of Student STEM Research,” said President Alan W. Cramb, ƵAPP Institute of Technology. “We are confident that these young innovators will go on to be the leaders of tomorrow’s STEM community, solving some of society’s most pressing challenges with the skills they learn here at ƵAPP.”
ƵAPP will join Corporate Sponsors BP America, Motorola Solutions Foundation, ComEd, an Exelon Company, Peoples Gas and Chicago Public Schools in supporting this year’s Exhibition, to be held at the Hermann Hall Conference Center on ƵAPP’s Mies Campus. The Student STEM Exhibition will be open to the public from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Friday, March 22, and from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 23.
CPS Student Science Fair Inc. Board member and ƵAPP alumnus Roy Coleman (PHYS ’64) helped to bring this year’s event to ƵAPP Institute of Technology.
“As an ƵAPP graduate, I know first-hand the inspiring and transformative impact that this campus can have on the lives of young students,” said Coleman. “Whether it be through the Chicago Regional and International Bridge Building Competition or through this year’s CPS STEM Exhibit, we at ƵAPP hope to foster an environment of lifelong learning, so that today’s students can continue in their pursuit of exploring the unexplored.”
