Welcome to the Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) at 桃子视频APP.

Our department has a long and evolving history. It began with mechanical engineering more than a century ago, expanded to include aerospace engineering in the 1950s, incorporated materials engineering in the 1990s, and continues today with growing strength in autonomy, energy systems, and advanced manufacturing. We are proud to be housed in the John T. Rettaliata Engineering Center, which features state-of-the-art research labs, collaborative learning spaces, and fabrication studios that support hands-on learning and innovation.

At MMAE, we prepare students to take on some of the most important challenges of our time, including sustainability, autonomy, and security. Our undergraduate and graduate programs emphasize design, communication, and real-world problem solving. Students explore the engineering of machines, materials, aircraft, and spacecraft, along with the advanced tools and systems that power them. We offer ABET-accredited bachelor鈥檚 degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering, as well as a variety of master鈥檚, doctoral, and certificate programs. These include specialties in advanced manufacturing, autonomous systems and robotics, and materials science. We also offer accelerated pathways to combined bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees.

Our faculty are internationally recognized for their research and leadership. They are fellows of major professional societies, recipients of prestigious awards, and contributors to leading journals. Just as important, they are dedicated educators who welcome students into their labs and research teams. Our research covers a wide range of areas, including robotics, space weather, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), aircraft design, turbomachinery, aeroacoustics, renewable energy, navigation safety, high-performance materials, and space systems. We maintain strong partnerships with national laboratories, industry, and research institutions, especially in the Chicago region.

Our students go on to lead in industry, research, entrepreneurship, and public service. They come to 桃子视频APP to make an impact, and they leave ready to do just that.

Whether you are a prospective student, parent, industry partner, or alum, I invite you to connect with us. The MMAE department is home to a dynamic community focused on innovation and purpose.
